Journey to /r/AnthemTheGame’s “Winter-Moon” event

In four days it will be a whole year since our first event, civil war, came out. Time went by so fast, and usually I’d celebrate something this big with a GK-special event. Well, maybe soon… We’ll talk about that later.

First early draft of the logo to just sketch out the idea of what I wanted.

For now, I’d like to talk about the fun scenario I’ve found putting together: A event for the Anthem Discord! As some know I am a mod there, and overtime one of the usual concerns for the discord was a lack of activity. For a while I refrained from even launching the activities, we run in GK there due to being, honestly, afraid of launching something in the big server. While right now the numbers are manageable, my fear was simply if too many joined then I’d be overwhelmed and not be able to put on a good show.

Enough people, however, expressed interest in having activities ran in the server so I proceeded to working on this event.

So while Return of the King was almost over I went full force into making a brand new event. Sorta. This time I decided instead of remaking the wheel I took a event from the past that shown the best promise of being expanded in a larger number in case things got too big, as well as something that was interesting for the ATG side of things.

So I went with Return of the King, or as I lovingly call it “Rekindled Flame 2.0” and redesigned it to better fit ATG. This is why much of the pages seem oddly familiar to that last event. Still, I had some opportunities to make some changes to the way I present things, which was the most fun when working on this.

One of the things was changing how the gifs were displayed, adding the javelins to make it a clearer which javelin we expect for this event. So, if it required a ranger Javelin, it had a ranger javelin for the art. If it allowed for all, then we had a banner that represented all.

Another first is the multi-console experience and the Leader-boards that are split between platforms. We used to do PC only experiences, and while moving forward GK will also host multi-platform experiences as well, this event became the first time I got to run such a thing.

Overall I had fun making the adjustments where I did and the back and forth I had with the mod team. Assyrian, Noble, and Musely were great assistance in helping shape this event. Alongside, of course, Ruby making the spreadsheets needed to easily record everything. Guy is a wizard on google sheets I tell you.

I hope you enjoyed my ramblings, the bits of old art, and the event on ATG if you’re participating in it. GK continues to be one of my favorite things to do, running events is always a joy, and making Anthem a bit more special for people will always warm my heart. So till next time, my friends!
